Your Hope is Remaining empowers through education, healthcare, and advocacy, aiming to uplift marginalized communities and foster gender equality and socio-economic development across India.
Your Hope is Remaining is a Community Development Organisation. Community Development is process where community members come together to take collective action and generate solutions to common problems. Community well being (economic, social, environmental and cultural) often evolves from this type of collective action being taken at a grassroots level. Your Hope is Remaining doing well its community development services by creating awareness on importance of education especially girls’ education; human rights-highly concentrate the women’s rights; stressing the women’s equality, equal respect and equal justice too among the rural poor villagers; motivating the children from the poor families on encouraging them by distributing school bags, text books, note books, pencils and geometry boxes.

In India there are multiple socio-economic disadvantages that members of particular groups experience which limits their access to health and healthcare. Social stigma and discrimination, that acts as barriers to health and healthcare. The vulnerable groups that face discrimination include Women, Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Children, Aged, Disabled, Poor migrants, People living with HIV/AIDS and Sexual Minorities.
Women face double discrimination being members of specific caste, class or ethnic group apart from experiencing gendered vulnerabilities. Women have low status as compared to men in Indian society. They have little control on the resources and on important decisions related to their lives. In India, early marriage and childbearing affects women’s health adversely.
About 28 per cent of girls in India, get married below the legal age and experience pregnancy. Maternal mortality is very high in India. The average maternal mortality ratio at the national level is 540 deaths per 100,000 live births (National Family Health Survey-2, 2000). It varies between states and regions, i.e., rural-urban. The rural MMR (Maternal Mortality Rate) is 617 deaths of women age between 15-49 years per one lakh live births as compared to 267 maternal deaths per one lakh live births among the urban population (National Family Health Survey-2, 2000). In most cases the deaths occur from preventable causes.

Mrs. Salma (Rokkhiah)

Your Hope is Remaining’ is being run by the familiar Tamil Poet, Mrs. Salma (Rokkhiah). Salma is a well-known name to readers of contemporary Tamil literature. With two volumes of poetry “Oru Maalaiyum Innoru Maalaiyum” (One evening and another evening) and “Pacchai Devadai” (Green Angel) and a novel “Irandaam Jaamangalin Kadhal” and a short story collection “Saabam” (Curse), all of which have been translated into several languages, Salma has made her mark as a distinctive literary voice.
Besides being a woman of letters, Salma has also been a committed public servant. She was the elected President of the Ponnampatti Panchayat from 2001-2006. She also served as the Chairman of the Social Welfare Boards, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, during which time she was instrumental in establishing several welfare schemes, including some landmark ones directed towards the Transgender (Aravani/hijra) community in Tamil Nadu. For her contributions, she was also one of the selection committee members of the Dr. Durgabai Deshmukh Award for 2009-2011, where the President was the Hon’ble wife of the then Vice President of India.
Aims and Objectives of the trust
Promoting holistic development and empowerment through educational, economic, and cultural initiatives for marginalized communities, focusing on women and disadvantaged groups.
To work for social educational, economic and cultural development of the deprived, oppressed, marginalized disadvantaged and weaker sections of the society, irrespective of caste, community religion, region, race ethnicity gender etc.
To extend charitable and development based services for the physically, psychologically, and socially affected women, children, adolescents and youth, aged people.
To plan and be implement the programmes on socio economic development of rural and urban poor in specific for women and to uplift them from backward weaker sections of the society by forming Self Help Groups (SHGs), to promote savings and credit system and to implement income generating activities by availing credit and loan facilities from Banks and financial institutions like Rashtriya Mahila Kosh (RMK)-New Delhi, SIDBI, NABARD, NMDFC, TNCDW., and other government agencies, public sector banks at district, state, national and from international donors.
